Hey folks, I thought it’d be fun to try something new. In addition to the audio podcasts, I’m going to be doing some writeups of something new I’m trying: solo roleplaying games.

It’s time to get “The Dumpster Fire” to a destination where we can pilfer some awesome trash, but it’s not going to happen without a few complications. We dive into the rule-set to see exactly how problems change the situation going forward. Luckily, the crew does make it into the house, but how stealthy can our fury friends actually be? Let’s turn up the noises and the laughter in this episode.

Who says Bone Throwers Theater can’t be light-hearted and zany once in a while? Ok, we still let some of our dark humor “shine” through a bit on this one, but this system, setting, and story is ripe for the absurd and ridiculous hijinks, engineered and orchestrated by raccoons! We definitely laughed til our sides hurt on this one.

For this final battle with the story’s B.B.E.G, we pull out out the stops. Quick Actions, Feature Actions, High Watch are all employed against enemies seen and unseen. As the story concludes we get a hint as to why this group may not have the best of reputations. We also give some brief commentary as we wrap up on the system and what has gone into creating the setting, lore, and gameplay mechanics of this upcoming game. We really enjoyed it, and hope you all did too. You’ll probably hear another run of this game in the future!

Victorious in combat, mystery solved; now it’s time to rest and recover by a cozy campfire… right? Nope… that’s never how it goes. In fact, things are a lot more “grim” (hehe) than our characters realize. The true threat is revealed in this episode, and it might be a lot more than our “heroes” want to take on. I mean, the words “run, hide, fight… in that order” were used, but let’s see if that’s the way things shake out.

The party sets out from haven of Shadevale to start their quest, albeit reluctantly for some members. The tension quickly skyrockets as things get “weird beyond weird”. Aside from the story, we do get some pretty good glimpses into the mechanics of the system to include “try your odds”, “stress”, and “morale.”

This one-shot kicks off with the FOUR HUNDREDTH, yes 400th, episode of the podcast! So of course we needed to make it a special one. We are play-testing a game that is still in development with a guest GM, and friend of the show, Mike. While we create characters in this episode, he shares glimpses and insights into the mechanics of the game, some of the steps that were taken in developing the system, along with a few inspirations for this “post-historic” world.

We have entered The Time of Dust, the next phase of the game. Two more intruders to kill or chase off, and they are pretty horrific ones. Phase one of the game, the “unsealed tomb”. Two intruders, thwarted, and several secrets of the skeletons’ past are revealed… but at a cost. Time passes, but the guardians still stand watch, for now. So far we are loving the collaborative storytelling in this game.

In this commentary episode we discuss the flexibility of this game for a one-shot and an extended campaign. Aaron shares that there is a lot of flexibility in the game in general, and we conclude that this game would be great for both young and old, and first-time and experienced RPGers. So Good Strong Hands… good strong game.

Well, the whole party is dead to start this episode… mostly dead. The victory in this story must be won in a spiritual realm, and at a cost. Not all the characters will remain unstained by the evil they face. Enjoy the final battle in this fantastic one-shot.

In this episode, visions, dreams, and mysterious voices have lead us to the Sorrow Sworn Fields. Jordan’s GM style creeps into his character play, and some self imposed complications come about. But let’s be honest, that’s not a real departure from the other usual suspects style of play.

Aaron’s in the GM seat again for this one, and he admits that has tweaked the story in advance to prepare for our normal plot hijacking hijinks. In this first episode of the fantasy game, we introduce our unique characters and set out on an “adventure”. But to one character, an “adventure” is something completely different. Either way, this party definitely will be the daisy in a field of roses.

What’s it going to take for the Spaceheads to make a decision on their future? A Loan Shark, dirty money, and a couple shady pacts may play a vital role of two in the fate of music in the galaxy. Seems a bit grandiose? We thought so too, but you have to see how it all turned out.

Crossroad or Crisis? Will the band, The Spaceheads, take a gig on Earth on the next stop on the Space Jam Tour? There are a lot of obstacles on the road to fame and fortune; low funds, label pressure, restraining orders… and a possible line up change. Whether this opportunity is a good thing or not remains to be seen, but there is definitely tension, turmoil, and talking behind each others’ back.

We play some musical chairs for this one-shot and switch seats. Jeremy ends up in the driver’s seat as the GM for one of his favorite systems, Shadowrun. We’ve referenced this game quite a bit and now finally sit down to play it. But this isn’t your standard run, we’ve put a twist or two in the mechanics and story. Well, this Space Station adventure definitely had an unexpected and controversial ending. So much so that we rolled right into commentary on the system, and how much our preconceived notions on science fiction influenced our decision making. Here’s a different kind of role playing game from a familiar game designer, Jared A. Sorenson. This game plays like an old style, text-based computer game, so the cast will have to work together to beat the story before they run out of lives, or chances to save the game. Rival mobster families, and late night warehouse showdowns make for a classic 1920’s gangster story. We had a lot of fun with this episode, despite the mission and our rolls not going according to plan.
