BTT EoW 4.93: Dead Man’s Switch

Desperate times, desperate measures, that’s about the only way to sum up the group’s solution for the current dilemma. And as if things aren’t bad enough already, a new Council member drops in unexpectedly. A couple characters spring into action with some quick-witted and unexpected counters of their own, but they trigger a dire consequence for one character in particular.

We start off on our 2nd life for this adventure, after a player couldn’t resist doing something just to see what would happen. Also, this time around seems to be a bit more of a puzzle that takes a little bit of trial and error to solve. But honestly, who hasn’t spent hours playing a game, wandering across the map, and missing the one bit of crucial equipment?

Things start heating up in this episode, literally, with a Dead-drop recon mission, and a bunch of little Kaiju (nicknamed Kaijlettes) that just won’t drop-dead as they are told to. But at least a couple characters may get some new tech gadgets out of it… if they survive.

Here’s a different kind of role playing game from a familiar game designer, Jared A. Sorenson. This game plays like an old style, text-based computer game, so the cast will have to work together to beat the story before they run out of lives, or chances to save the game. And of course, it wouldn’t be Bone Throwers Theater if some of the choices made weren’t thought all the way through. This is going to be a fun one!

A Kaiju in the city, a cryptic radio message, and a decision to split the party; those are the ingredients for what we hope is a recipe for success. And Jeremy even attempts an interesting negotiation strategy with Jordan to steer the narrative in that direction. But who are we kidding. We know full-well how these things turn out.

In this commentary episode we fully wrap our minds around how much the city of Consiglio has fully spiraled into chaos… and Jordan’s literal interpretation of the player’s words is just the cherry on top. We talk about near-death experiences for characters and tying in some loose threads from the previous seasons.

“No more carrying bodies.” So the group waits for Jerr to regain consciousness. If the title is any indication, the characters have no idea of the chaos that is about to ensue. This play session also caught most of the cast completely by surprise as well. Alarms sound in the Animal Preserve, and some characters are on the run from the Androids, while others are on the run from each other. EOW S3

There was certainly a lot to digest in this first session of season 3, as well as a lot of “firsts” for our characters 2/3 of the way through their journey to the Animal Preserve. We comment on a first for the players in a different mode of storytelling. We really enjoyed the mystery and intrigue that this latest non-linear format brought to the table, and we hope you did as well. There are sure to be more “firsts” for both players and characters in the rest of the season.
